O2H TEA
Yashi Aroma (Phoenix Oolong Tea)
Yashi Aroma is O2H's single-origin Phoenix oolong (Feng Huang Dan Cong) from the Phoenix Mountains of Guangdong, China — one of the most aromatic styles of oolong tea in the world. Where our H Collection oolongs are blended with fruit, Yashi Aroma is the traditional, unblended counterpart: a tea prized for its natural honey-orchid fragrance that comes entirely from the leaf and the craft of roasting, with nothing added.
Flavour profile
Phoenix oolong is famous for its "dan cong" character — single-bush teas that carry distinct natural aromas. Yashi Aroma leans into a honey-orchid sweetness with a smooth, lingering finish and a gentle roasted warmth underneath. It is floral without being perfumed, sweet without being sugary, and holds its aroma across multiple infusions. If you've enjoyed lighter oolongs and want to explore the more traditional, aromatic end of the category, this is the natural next step.
How to brew Phoenix oolong
Phoenix oolong rewards a slightly hotter brew than lighter oolongs:
- Water temperature: 95°C
- Leaf: about 3 g per 200 ml (a little more for a fuller cup)
- First infusion: 30–45 seconds
- Re-steeps: 4–6 more times, adding 10–15 seconds each time — the aroma opens up beautifully across infusions
A short first rinse (5–10 seconds, poured off) wakes the leaf and softens the first proper infusion. Phoenix oolong is well suited to gongfu-style brewing in a gaiwan, but works just as well in a simple teapot.
When to drink it
With around 40–55 mg of caffeine per cup, Yashi Aroma is a mid-morning to early-afternoon tea. Traditionally, Phoenix oolong is enjoyed after meals — its aromatic, slightly roasted character is thought to cut through richer food and settle the stomach, which is why it's a favourite after-dinner tea across Guangdong.
Yashi Aroma is available as loose leaf and tea bags. New to oolong? Browse the full O2H oolong tea collection, or read our complete guide to oolong tea for benefits, brewing and the differences between styles.
