Pu-erh Delight (Green tangerine Pu-erh)
Pu-erh Delight is our traditional Xiao Qing Gan — a whole green Xinhui tangerine hollowed and stuffed with aged shou pu-erh, then slow-dried together. The result looks like a small dried fruit and brews like a complete tea session in a single piece.
This is the original, Chinese-classic form of Xiao Qing Gan. The Xinhui tangerine — grown in Guangdong, specifically the Citrus reticulata Blanco cv. Chachiensis cultivar — is prized in traditional Chinese medicine for its aged peel (chenpi). Paired with fermented pu-erh, the cup balances bright citrus with earthy depth.
Flavour: Citrus-forward in early infusions, deepening to earthy pu-erh, dried dates, and a clean finish
Aroma: Fresh tangerine oil on the dry fruit; aged forest-floor notes when brewed
Caffeine: Low–medium (aged shou fermentation reduces caffeine)
Pairs well with: Heavy meals, Chinese banquets, autumn afternoons
How to brew: 95–100°C water, 5-second rinse first, then 15–30s first infusion. Re-steep 8–12 times, extending steep time as the fruit weakens. One fruit brews 1.5–2L of tea total.
Pu-erh Delight is the place to start if you've never tried Xiao Qing Gan. For the full range (oolong, white, black variants), see our Tangerine Serenade tasting set.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Pu-erh Delight different from other pu-erh teas?
Pu-erh Delight combines high-grade Menghai pu-erh with the distinctive brightness of Xinhui green tangerines. This blend creates a sophisticated flavor profile that marries the earthy, smooth characteristics of aged pu-erh with citrus notes. The green tangerine peel, sourced from the Xinhui region of China, adds complexity and a natural sweetness that elevates this to a premium specialty tea experience.
How should I brew my pu-erh tea for the best flavor?
For optimal taste, use water heated to 95–100°C (203–212°F). Steep the pu-erh for 3–5 minutes for the first infusion. This tangerine pu-erh blend can be resteeped 5–7 times, with each subsequent steeping bringing out different flavor layers. A shorter 2–3 minute steep is recommended for resteeps to prevent over-extraction. We suggest using a gaiwan or yixing teapot to fully appreciate the pu-erh's complexity.
What are the health benefits of pu-erh tea?
Pu-erh tea is known for supporting digestive health and may help with cholesterol management. The fermentation process creates beneficial probiotics that support gut health. When combined with green tangerine peel (used in traditional Chinese medicine), this blend offers additional benefits including improved digestion, reduced bloating, and enhanced metabolism. Many tea enthusiasts enjoy pu-erh as part of their daily wellness routine.
How much caffeine is in this pu-erh blend?
This Pu-erh Delight contains approximately 30–40mg of caffeine per 8oz cup, making it a moderate-caffeine tea suitable for afternoon enjoyment. The fermentation process of pu-erh naturally reduces caffeine content compared to raw pu-erh, so this blend is gentle enough for sensitive systems while still providing a subtle energy lift.
How should I store my pu-erh tea to maintain freshness?
Store your pu-erh in an airtight container away from direct sunlight, strong odors, and moisture. A cool, dry place between 15–25°C is ideal. Unlike some teas, quality pu-erh can age gracefully and may improve with time when stored properly. The sealed pouch should keep this blend fresh for 2–3 years, though we recommend enjoying it within the first year for peak flavor.

At O2H Tea, we take pride in crafting exceptional teas like our Tangerine tea. During the aging process, you may notice a delicate 'hoarfrost' on the surface, also known as 'orange citrus oil.' This natural phenomenon is a result of the citrus oil precipitating after a sun-dried or low-temperature baking process. Rest assured, it's not mildew and poses no harm to your health. In fact, it's a testament to the quality and authenticity of our tea, enhancing its flavor and character.
