Velvet Petal is a grapefruit jasmine tea — a crisp, bright cup where fresh grapefruit zest meets classic jasmine green tea scenting. Citrus-forward, floral, and clean-finishing. An unusual pairing in Australia, but one of our most refreshing H Collection blends.

Jasmine green tea is a centuries-old Chinese style (jasmine flowers layered over green tea leaves overnight to transfer scent). Adding real grapefruit peel gives it a cooler, more modern edge — the bitterness of grapefruit balances the sweetness of jasmine perfectly, and it brews into a cup that works equally hot or iced.

Flavour: Pink grapefruit zest, jasmine florals, clean green tea finish
Aroma: Fresh citrus over jasmine blossom
Caffeine: Low–medium (green tea base)
Pairs well with: Afternoons, light salads, Mediterranean food, hot summer days iced

How to brew: 80–85°C water, 2–3 minutes. Beautiful cold-brewed — 6–8 hours in the fridge for a crisp, slightly bittersweet iced tea.

Velvet Petal is a good entry point if you like bright, citrus-led teas or want a change from stone-fruit-based blends like Peach Mountain. For other floral oolongs in the H Collection, see Sakura Blossom.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Velvet Petal taste like?

Velvet Petal is bright and crisp — pink grapefruit zest as the lead flavour, jasmine florals in support, and a clean green tea finish. It's citrus-forward rather than sweet, so it works especially well for people who find most flavoured teas too sugary. Not bitter unless over-steeped.

How do I brew Velvet Petal properly?

Use 80–85°C water (too hot will flatten the jasmine and sharpen the grapefruit bitterness). Steep 2–3 minutes for the first infusion. For iced tea, cold-brew 1 teaspoon of leaf in 250ml cold water for 6–8 hours in the fridge. Re-steeps 3–4 times hot.

How much caffeine is in Velvet Petal?

Approximately 20–35mg per 250ml cup — low to medium caffeine, on the green tea spectrum. Suitable for afternoon drinking without disrupting sleep for most people. Shorter steep times reduce caffeine further.

Is Velvet Petal good iced?

Very. The grapefruit notes amplify with cold brewing, and the jasmine stays aromatic rather than getting lost. It's one of our best summer teas — naturally slightly bitter like grapefruit soda, without added sugar. Pairs well with a slice of fresh grapefruit as garnish.

How should I store Velvet Petal?

Airtight container, away from light, heat, and strong odours. 15–25°C stable temperature. The grapefruit and jasmine notes are best enjoyed within 12 months of opening. Jasmine green teas generally don't age well — drink them fresh.
